A Pioneer in Transforming Traditional Dentistry

Meet Dr. Doug Thompson
Dr. Thompson began his dental career at the age of 18, working as an in-house laboratory technician. Over the next decade, he balanced full-time work with study, earning his degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1996. He then completed a year-long hospital-based General Dentistry Residency at the V.A. in 1997. That same year, he acquired a well-established private practice in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, where he continues to practice today under the name Integrative Oral Medicine.
Dr. Thompson has invested hundreds of hours in continuing education at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington, under the direction of Dr. John Kois. In 2005, he became a Mentor for students, and by 2008, he earned the distinction of Clinical Instructor. He was appointed Chairman of the Membership Committee in 2010 and in 2011 was selected as one of four members of the Kois Center Advisory Board. Dr. Thompson chaired the Advisory Board from 2014 to 2016. In 2015, he accepted a part-time faculty position to teach Periodontal Medicine and expanded his role in 2016 to include Wellness Dentistry.
Dr. Thompson advocates for an interdisciplinary approach to healthcare, coordinating dental care with other medical professionals to ensure comprehensive treatment for his patients. He utilizes advanced DNA bacterial testing and other cutting-edge dental technologies for early risk assessment and personalized care planning.
